Due to the long and rigid vines of these plants, some damage can occur to the ends of the plants when we initially import them - which we then trim and neaten up (eg. damaged vines may have been removed), new growth will emerge from either the top of the plant or from lower down up on the same vine.

The Hoya Carnosa Compacta or 'Hindu Rope Plant' is suitably named for its thick, rope like vines made up of many curved leaves. This plant is very slow growing so it takes quite some time for it to reach this impressive stage of maturity.
One of our pet friendly options for those of you with furry friends who like to nibble on your plants!
Other common names for Hoya are: Wax plant, Waxvine, Honey Plant and Porcelain Flower. They are relatively easy to care for and are known to have air-purifying qualities. Their leaves are thick and full like a succulents, they can store a lot of water in them so you are more likely to over water this plant than underwater it. If you treat them right, Hoyas have been know to live for decades!
Hoya are a vining plant, they will happily hang off of a shelf or in a hanging basket but if you give them a trellis or pole they will rapidly climb it. If you look after your Hoya right, it will reward you by sending out cluster of star-shaped flowers which form on the stems.
Care:
Light: Bright, indirect light will make this plant thrive. They can grow in a lower light, however it will stunt growth and the plant will not flower.
Water: Allow the top half of soil to dry out before watering during growing months. During the winter reduce watering considerably.
Food: During growing months apply a weak fertiliser once a month.
Humidity: Will tolerate a normal household humidity however for increased growth and bigger leaves an increased humidity will be ideal.
